The Bonsai Tree was originally found in China, growing in the wild. Taoist Monks embraced these plants and cultivated them under the name Punsai (tray plant).
During the Hang Dynasty, these Monks traveled to Japan where the art form was quickly adopted by Japanese Monks. As such, it is a rich heritage of both cultures and has found its way throughout most parts of the world.
